Fishing Boat Caught in Hurricane

In about 30AD a fishing boat along with its crew and captain found themselves caught in a hurricane at sea. The crew began to panic with overwhelming fear of death, screaming and shouting could be heard as the vessel was on the verge of sinking, while the captain of the ship remained asleep in the stern of the boat on a pillow.

The crew woke up the captain, accusing him for not caring. He got up and rebuked the storm, within an instant the storm died as if it never happened. The captain replied and said” You of little faith!”

Jesus was in the back of the boat, sleeping with his head on a pillow. The disciples woke him up and said, "Teacher, don't you care that we are about to die?"

(Mark 4:38 GNB)

There have been circumstances where people had to face hurricanes, but there are times we face hurricanes in our life as well. Extreme conditions may change our living conditions forever. Our emotions go out of control, with fear and anger towards the situation, and the first person we blame is God for not caring at all.
We might even give up on God, but what can we learn from this situation. How should be respond to such circumstances in our lives? The gearbox broke recently and cost us down time and major expensive repairs. We only managed to do two loads for the whole month.

How are we going to survive and pay for our trailer, the driver’s salary and insurance? Fear is definitely a factor and may lead to anger towards God. The feelings of despondency and worry that we are going to fail as our resources have dried up. This means the only funds we have is the funds that this truck can generate to keep the wheels on the road.

Should we react in a similar way like the disciples, go off in a panic mode, or should we patiently wait of God for help us. The relationship between our emotions and our reactions will reveal the condition of our ability to trust in God as our actions justify our faith.

You see, then, that it is by our actions that we are put right with God, and not by our faith alone. (James 2:24 GNB)
